Eric Asare (Ph.D; P.Ag)
Sustainability Research Agronomist
Eric Asare obtained both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Crop Science from the University of Ghana. After which he moved to the University of Saskatchewan for his Ph.D. degree in Plant Sciences. Large part of his previous research had focused on development of protocols for propagation of tropical crops such as yams, cassava and sweet potato. Eric also researched into the genetic bases for altered carbohydrate composition in some barley lines. Recently, he has also been involved in field trial design, analysis and report writing on pea growth, development, and yield on Fusarium and/or Aphanomyces infested soils using different herbicides combinations, seed place and foliar fertility. Eric also explored optimum fertility requirements for higher yields in wheat, durum, pea, soybean, and lentil as well as using adjuvants enriched with zinc (Zn) and manganese (Mn) to reduce crop stress associated with the application of glyphosate or glufosinate on Roundup Ready (RR) or Liberty Link canola. Currently, his priority is to assist farmers in southwestern Saskatchewan focus on increasing productivity sustainably by researching into best technologies, novel crop varieties, suitable methodologies, and strategies to improve soil health. Eric has numerous publications and has presented at international meetings and conferences including the American Association of Cereal Chemists at Hawai, USA; Soils and Crops Conference at Saskatoon, SK. Canada and Health and Life Conference, Saskatoon, SK. Canada. It is the belief of Eric Asare that the future of research depends on taking control of the present and understanding the past. Eric enjoys spending his leisure time with the family and site seeing.
